My Last Day

Today is my last day with Imagination Project. It's bittersweet for me. On one hand, I am SO excited for this new venture and cannot wait to get started. On the other hand - I have so many good friends and memories here. Nobody ever said life was easy - that's for sure. But, today I'm going to celebrate - the friendships that I've made over my three years here and hopefully the new friends I will meet!

I'm taking two days off in-between to organize my home, have a yard sale and spend some time with my kids. Maggie's last day of school is tomorrow, and I'll be at her party which is a first for me. She's super excited about it and truthfully, so am I. It's not easy being the "working mom" whenever you go to a school function. All the other moms know each other and you can tell that they don't quite understand where you're coming from. I went to her awards assembly yesterday and felt very out of place. But, this is a decision that I made a long time ago. One that I really don't have a choice with but one that I need to embrace anyway. Maggie thinks it's cool some of the stuff her mom does. Let's hope it stays that way.

I just wanted to end this with some funny pictures of some of the things I've done of the past few years. Good times...

I agree that change is good.

Amen to the working mom not fitting in at school functions. Somebody has to do it though :)

You know I'm here if you need anything. You know I'll be calling you too ;-)

Don't be so hard on yourself about the working mom thing. My mom worked and we were never anything but proud. Chances are those other moms just have different things to feel insecure about.

Best of luck my friend, I'm so excited for you! And we get to do lunch on Friday!

Barb is right. There are insecurities on both sides of the Mommy Fence. I've done both. If you work, you probably have lots more interesting topics of conversation at a party than I do! On the other hand, it's true, we stay-at-homes do get to know each other and the people at our kids' schools pretty well, which does make for a kind of clique that working moms may feel left out of. Part of it is just self-confidence. My vote is just to refuse to feel left out either way. At parties, I find the moms and dads who don't mind talking about their kids, or I listen with interest to other peoples' adventures on the job. I really try not to have any judgments about the working moms, and I hope they try not to have any judgments about me. As Rodney King said on the subject of race problems, "why can't we all just get along?"

Okay, didn't mean to hog up your comments section with a soapbox speech--just wanted to say hang in there!
